The dishes we serve in North Ryde today are the products of years of development and evolution. Tong Lau and the team at The House of Tong wanted to capture everything that they love about millennia-old Cantonese cuisine, bringing this to a new audience here in Australia. At the same time, we wanted to add our own unique twist to the dishes we create, achieving something that sets us apart from other Cantonese restaurants in the area. The result is The House of Tong.
Our owner and executive chef is Liu Jing Tong, or Tong Lau. He is passionate about Cantonese cuisine and the dining experience. This is why you will find the very finest East Asian cuisine here at the House of Tong, presented in an environment that is designed to delight our customers. Tong Lau is responsible for the menu direction and the ingredients we use. He also carefully selects his chef team and waiting staff, ensuring that everyone at the House of Tong shares his commitment to excellence.
Tong Lau has spent more than 40 years in this industry, working in world-renowned restaurants in the Cantonese culinary heartland of Hong Kong, as well as here in Australia. Over this time, he has honed his ingredient selection processes, knife skills, and cooking prowess, using all of this to serve dishes that delight customers. This has not gone unnoticed, and Tong Lau’s expertise has been recognised with a number of different international awards and prizes.
